2017 Hyundai Thanksgiving Food Drive

Share our Selves will receive can-good, non-perishable and cash donations from Hyundai to assist families in need in the Orange County, CA area

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Nov. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Hyundai Motor America announces it will donate 2,000 frozen turkeys to families in Orange County, California, in time for Thanksgiving. This donation is a part of the company’s ongoing mission to help build stronger communities.

“Hyundai Motor America is committed to giving back to the community and helping its neighbors during times of need,” said Zafar Brooks, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility. “This recent donation of 2,000 fresh frozen turkeys is a practical way to assist families in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. We are honored to partner with over 20 community based organizations in distributing the turkeys and other items to insure they get to those who are in need. “

As a part of this effort, Hyundai is conducting its annual food drive effort at its offices with its employees from November 6 until November 18th. The public can drop off can-goods and non-perishable items at one of 5 other drop-off locations in Fountain Valley:

  • The Fountain Valley Senior Center, 17967 Bushard St., Fountain Valley
  • Fountain Valley Recreation Center, 16500 Brookhurst St., Fountain Valley
  • Fountain Valley City Hall Building, 10200 Slater Ave., Fountain Valley
  • The Fountain Valley Bowl, 17110 Brookhurst St., Fountain Valley
  • Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce, 10055 Slater Ave #250, Fountain Valley

In addition, Hyundai headquarters employees are participating in a CANstruction project that will raise additional food donations. Teams of Hyundai employees will use their creativity and skills to building CANstruction structures using can-goods and non-perishable food items. Each project is expected to be built with 2,000 can-good items. The can-goods will be added to the overall food drive donation, which will all be donated to Share Our Selves, a non-profit organization that provides over 60,000 meals a year to Orange County residents.  The public is invited to join us by making a donation of can-goods at one of the above locations or directly to Share Our Selves.

Rosa Parks Library And Museum

In celebration of the Selma to Montgomery March 50th Anniversary, Hyundai Motor America presented the Rosa Parks Library and Museum a $10,000 donation to allow the public free admission on Saturday March 7th. By providing this donation, the Rosa Park Museum was able to open it doors to nearly 1,000 attendees.

Selma to Montgomery March


MONTGOMERY – March 6, 2015 –  On Friday, March 6,  Hyundai Motor America presented 51 Miles Forward, an initiative commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery march at the Rosa Parks Museum. The 51 Miles Forward initiative recognized more than 600 people who risked their lives during the civil rights movement to become catalysts of social change and acknowledge Hyundai’s commitment to march Forward in fulfilling the promise to our nation.

Civil Rights Leaders, elected officials, local dignitaries and executives converged in Montgomery and attended the private Hyundai reception. Reception guests received greetings from Dave Zuchowski (President and CEO of Hyundai Motor America) and remarks from Civil Rights Leaders Dr. Bernice King, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Amelia Boynton Robinson and keynote speaker Fred Gray (Civil Rights Attorney) to name a few.

NCLR Capital Awards

Hyundai continues its partnership with NCLR in 2015 as the Co-Chair Sponsor of the 28th Annual NCLR Capital Awards. Each year, the NCLR Capital Awards brings together Hispanic leaders, community activists, elected and appointed officials, leaders from nonprofit organizations, and executives from Fortune 500 companies to recognize congressional leaders for their support of public policies that are vital and important to the Latino community.  In addition, NCLR also honors those outside of Congress who are tireless advocates for Hispanic Americans with the Public Service Awards.

Hyundai / TELACU Experience

Hyundai continues its partnership with The East Los Angeles Community Union (TELACU) Education Foundation in a comprehensive educational experience initiative.

The program includes Hyundai Motor America sponsoring and participating in the Building the Dream Scholarship Gala.  During this event, TELACU Scholars are recognized for their academic achievements and provided scholarships to further their collegiate careers.

The Hyundai Scholars Initiative at TELACU is a program where Los Angeles area college students are provide the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through an internship at TELACU.  Hyundai provides funding for 10 interns each year.  The Hyundai Scholars work in the areas of the environment, health care, and social services.  In addition, the Hyundai Scholars receive mentorship from TELACU Alumni and Executives.  This year, the interns hosted a Talent Career Expo where Hyundai Motor America and other companies were able to meet many college students interested in seeking careers and internships.

Hyundai and TELACU both have a common interest to support the advancement of Arts and Culture within all communities.  Hyundai Motor America was honored to be the Title sponsor of Tamayo’s Art Gallery located on the second floor of the world famous Tamayo’s Restaurant in East Los Angeles.  The event included artwork from TELACU’s own vault and the artwork of many notable Latino artists.

46th Annual NAACP Image Awards

For the sixth consecutive year, Hyundai was a Premiere Sponsor of the NAACP Image Awards.  The NAACP Image Awards is the nation’s premier multi-cultural awards show celebrating the outstanding achievement and performances of people of color in the arts (television, recording, literature, motion picture and writing & directing), as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.

Hyundai was the Official Sponsor of the NAACP Image Awards’ signature Post Show Gala featuring more than 1,500 influencers, tastemakers and celebrities. The 2015 Post Show Gala took place in the Historic Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, CA on Friday February 6, 2015.  Guests attending the Gala event were treated to a VIP reception which included live performances by Grammy Award Winner Chaka Khan, the soulful singer Raffia Ford, and celebrity MC Loni Love!

In addition, the winners of the Hyundai Smarter Campaign were hosted as Hyundai’s VIPs to the Image Awards getting to walk the red carpet and VIP access to the Post Show Gala.  At the post show gala, the three winners held a random drawing for the grand prize of a new 2015 Sonata.  Congratulations to Latasha Fuller who was the grand prize winner!

2015 Multicultural Media Luncheon

The Multicultural Media Luncheon is an annual awards event hosted by The Ajamu Group and held during the North American International Auto Show to recognize the achievements of companies and individuals that have a positive impact on diversity through media. For the third consecutive year, Hyundai Motor America was the Presenting Sponsor of the event.

This year, the keynote speaker was Keith Clinkscales, CEO of Revolt Media.  Hyundai’s Design Manager, Andre Hudson, received the Visionary Award for Design and Engineering.  Zafar Brooks, Director Corporate Social Responsibility and Diversity Inclusion for Hyundai, presented the 2015 Transportation Design Scholarship to Andre Fajardo, a senior at the College for Creative Studies.

Hyundai’s Coats For Kids

2015 marked the 6th year of the Hyundai Coats for Kids Initiative and the program reached a milestone of having donated over 10,000 winter coats.  Since 2010, Hyundai has donated 1,000 winter coats each year to Focus:HOPE and the HOPE Village Initiative which is committed to supporting academic achievement of children living in the neighborhoods around the Focus:HOPE campus in Detroit, MI.  The Hope Village Initiative aims to make Detroit a desirable place to live, work and raise a family.  Hyundai also made an annual $10,000 donation to Focus: Hope to support their mission dedicated to intelligent and practical solutions to reduce hunger, increase economic and educational success, and community development.

In 2012, Hyundai expanded the Coats for Kids initiative by making a one-time donation of 1,000 winter coats to the Boys & Girls Club of El Paso, TX.  In January 2013, Hyundai also made a one-time donation of 1,000 winter coats to the community organization Park Pride and the City of Atlanta’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.

In 2014, Hyundai once again expanded the Coats for Kids initiative, this time by making one-time donations of 1,000 winter coats to the community organizations CentroNia and the Rescue Mission in Washington DC in March and to Instituto Del Progreso Latino in Chicago in December.

Through the Hyundai Coats for Kids initiative, Hyundai aims to provide children in underserved communities with the practical necessity of a warm coat to help increase school attendance during cold winter days.

Hyundai Smarter Campaign

Hyundai launched a new advertising campaign, “Hyundai Smarter,” at its#SmarterLiving affair at The Estate in Atlanta, Georgia on October 23, 2014.  The new advertising campaign showcases a series of every day women and Spotlights the Power of Smarter Choices in Driving Success.  With more than 80% of automotive purchase decisions* being influenced by women, and the fact that the ethnic minority market represents 1 out of 4 new car buyers*, this is an important buying segment that is discerning about how it spends money, time and resources. (*Sources: Auto Alliance and IHS Automotive)

The Atlanta event launched the campaign with the newly-designed 2015 Sonata to the all-important women’s market.  It also featured a distinct panel of women influencers, including Shantis Das (Founder of Press Reset/ Hip Hop Professional), Myleik Teele (Founder of Curlbox), Rashan Ali (Media Personality), Christine White (Lawyer and Tech Investor), and Marshawn Evans (Motivational Speaker), each of whom is included in the Hyundai SmarterLiving online web series.  The event was hosted by James Andrews (True Story) and attended by over 150 of Atlanta’s opinion leaders and social media bloggers.  Participants were treated to a private performance by Grammy Award Winning artist, Kelly Price, whose hit song “It’s My Time” is featured in the campaign.  Hyundai also presented a $5,000 donation to the venerable Spelman College’s STEM Ambassadors program.
